Welcome to the Jungle! {Classroom Reveal}

I know some of you have already started school, but we start on Tuesday and I just cannot believe that time has already come!

I feel like a did NOT get a fair summer break at all.  I taught summer school, had STEM training, and worked on turning my classroom into a Jungle!  But besides all of that, I live in Wisconsin and I think we just might be entering the next Ice Age ...  {seriously}

So, yes it is Saturday night and I am blogging and getting things ready for Tuesday!  Hopefully this way, I just might be able to enjoy Sunday & Monday!

So, first I would like to share some Open House ideas!

I bought frames from the dollar store to hold all of my signs for a more clean/professional look!  I love the way it turned out!

I used this Editable Parent Handbook from Mrs. Ds Corner for FREE on TpT!  I put all the important classroom info on each page.  Parents loved this!

Get your own FREE copy HERE!

And ...there is a SNEAK preview of my **NEW** Jungle Theme!

These are all the volunteer forms and then I put out a box to hold completed forms.

Lastly, I put out baskets with labels for school supplies.  Unfortunately, not many of my kiddos brought their supplies to open house but I kept these out so I can sort through the supplies easier during the first week.

And now it's time for the big reveal!

My **NEW** Jungle Theme....

New Word/Reading Center!
I had WAY too many tables in my room last year.  I removed 3 tables, made some milk crate seats, AND moved my leveled library over to this corner.

This is the same corner, just higher up!  So I made the fabric chandelier on the hula hoop but of course, once it was finished, I changed my mind.

I moved the fabric to use as valances and used the thatch as the chandelier!  I just used spray adhesive to attach the thatch to the hula hoop.  Then I used command strips and fishing line to hang it!  I will post more pictures of my projects soon!

This is my favorite part!  (Minus that TV that they won't take out!)
I ordered this umbrella from Amazon for $19.99 and I swear it was the best purchase EVER!  I put the lamp I made in this reading corner and the black bookshelf in the corner is one of my projects as well!  This is my UN-leveled library.

Here is a better picture of my shelf (which I still want to paint a cute saying on the front) and my book hospital.  I am thinking of using the empty counter space as a word wall center.

This is my Guided Reading area!

Here is the front of my room with my new Jungle Themed letters & numbers!

My desk area and NEW Writing Center!
(The Rubbermaid drawers is another project I will be posting pictures of soon!)

The back wall by the door.
Super Improver Board, Schedule, Calendar, and Computer Center!

I use schedule cards from Cara Carroll at The First Grade Parade.
Get the FREE here!

My WBT Super Improver Board is from Camp Kindergarten and it is also FREE!
Grab one here.

My JUNGLE themed Calendar Months are my own creation (I am working on an entire Jungle Classroom Bundle!) and you can get them HERE!

This is my front window and my
bulletin board outside my classroom.

The Jungle Themed WBT signs
and banner are available in my TpT Store!

So... that's my **NEW** room!

I am super excited to share more of my room and my projects with you!

If you have a jungle themed classroom:
- comment & share your room with me!

How to use a Gumball Machine in your Classroom?

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Okay so I have been trying my best to avoid more rummage sales because as you will see later, I have bought a TON of things to paint, touch-up, re-do, etc. for my classroom this year!
So this one really is not my fault.  My fiance was in town and I noticed this gumball machine at a sale & when I was not with him, he went and got it!

So... now I am stuck with it and debating on how I want to use it!  So... I NEED YOUR HELP!

I was initially thinking I would like to use it at my writing center (pictures of my new writing center to come!), however, it only takes real money.  Real quarters to be exact!  I am not really a fan of providing quarters for my students and trusting them not to steal them?

I have not tested if it will take play money yet so I guess this still may be an option!

I was thinking I could put real gum/candy in here and use it as an incentive!

If I use it as an incentive, I am debating on HOW....

Should I put it in my PBIS Reward Catalog and let students earn money to shop for it?

(Get my FREE Reward Catalog HERE!)

I was also thinking I could use it with daily incentives and make it an easier to attain reward?

I do Whole Brain Teaching in my classroom so I am thinking maybe I could use it with the Super Improver Board somehow too?

As you can see.... I need your help!

Do you use a gumball machine in your classroom?  If so, how?

Which one of my ideas do you like best?  Or do you have a better idea?

Please comment below and help a sista out! :)

Thanks! ~ Heidi

5 For Friday! {August 22}

Good Friday Morning!

Well this Friday I have way more than 5 but I will condense for you, I promise!  Since we are new bloggers, we are always looking for more linky parties!  Please comment below and let us know about your favorites!

I am linking up with DoodleBugs Teaching for 5 for Friday today!

Okay so my first thing is one of my MANY, MANY, MANY, MANY diy projects I have been working on this summer!  I got the lamp itself at the thrift shop several weeks ago for $1 and have been looking for a shade for it.  Well, I went back to the thrift shop and found this diy lamp shade for $1!  It was so perfect because it was self adhesive!

I took some extra fabric that I had left over from my MANY other projects and got this amazing lamp for my reading area!

It looks so good in my classroom!  Can't wait to post pictures of my progress and classroom layout/theme!

Okay so I told you I have MANY diy projects so I just had to post one more this week!  I found this bar stool at a rummage sale.  When I am up in front of my students, sometimes I like to sit.  My other stool broke last year so I was hoping to find a new one!

As you can see.... IT'S UGLY!
I had to do something!

So... I painted the legs and stapled some fabric around the top!  It is definitely not professionally done, but it will match my classroom.... and its super comfy!

Not a bad $5 investment!

I was so excited about this!!!  I LOVE SharkTank, how about you?  Well I watch on Tuesdays on CNBC Prime and it just so happened I logged into to twitter one night.  (I love Twitter but it just is not my first choice of social media!)  Well CNBC posted that the 1st 20 people to tweet a certain message could win a SharkTank Box!

I am so serious when I say... I NEVER WIN!  But I did!  I messaged them my address and a couple days later, I got this awesome box with SharkTank Products!

I got BBQ Sauce, Eco Friendly Speakers, Energy Booster, Organic Chocolate Peanut Butter, and a Filtered Water Bottle!

FINALLY... some QT with my 2 favorite girls!  This summer has just flown by and I feel like all I have done is WORK!  I taught summer school so that really took away from my summer :(

BUT, I took my daughter & my niece and nephew to the zoo this week!  Our favorite animal is giraffes so we were super excited to be able to feed them!

Okay, my final one for today is so weird, I know!!!

I am part of the STEM grant (it is a 3 year commitment & this is my 2nd year).  We train for 2 weeks over the summer.  One week in June and one week in August.  So this past week we took a field trip to the Dinosaur Museum in Kenosha, WI.

I love learning about stuff like this!  But this fact... is so weird....

The tour guide said that they now believe that all dinosaurs had feathers!  This was news to me!  I just cannot imagine a T-Rex with feathers?  How un-scary!

So when we visited the kids part, I had to draw this :)

So, that is it for my week!  Well.... that's 5 for this week ;)

Please comment and share your favorite linkys with us and link us to your blogs so we can visit you too!  Thank you for visiting!

Monday Made It: Luggage Tags, Dry Erase Sleeves, Planter, and More!

I'm linking up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics for her Monday Made It!
I totally had intentions to have many Made Its ready to post today but my reality is that I have multiple projects in process. Stay tuned for more next week!

My first project is a pair of luggage tags I made for a teacher friend to use when traveling on her honeymoon! I think they turned out much better than the ones I made for myself! Notice how her phone number is the only personal info shown on the tag. All other info can be accessed by scanning the QR code. I love how this feature, now creepers can't see your name or address easily! Yes, I'm weirded out by stuff like that!

Up next are some reusable dry erase sleeves to use in my small groups. I keep seeing these things every where but they were never a priority because of the price. Well, that all changed when I found a cheap version in the Dollar Spot at Target. I don't know if I told you this yet, but I am a Target addict. I know, I know, we are teachers, we all love Target, but I think I take it to a different level than most. Really, they should pay me for all of the advertising I do for them! Anyway, I really wasn't a fan of the colors of these bad boys but I bought them anyway. Then, I got this grand idea that it would be super easy to cover the primary colors with a little Duct Tape. I think it worked out great, what do you think?

Now on to a project that isn't quite complete... I need a little advice! Someone PLEASE HELP!
So, I had this planter sitting in my garage for some time now. I wish I had a before picture but I'm sure you can imagine how boring it was. I was thinking, this would be a fun little way to add some life addition to my classroom, so I added some color to it to make it match my classroom decor. Now, for the advice. I need to fill it with some plants but what do I put in it?! I need something that is hearty! Suggestions please! I will post pictures once there I add them to the planter!

And for my last Monday Made It... I finally started my own Teachers Pay Teachers store!  I can't believe I took that leap! Right now, I only have 3 items in my store and they are ALL FREE! I can't wait to start adding more! My store is named Keepin' It Classy in Second! Go check it out, follow me, and if you download a product, rate it please!

That's all for now! By this time next week, I will have spent my first day working on my classroom! So much to do before then, yet it can't come soon enough!

Five For Friday!

Happy Friday!  Today is my first FFF linky and I am so excited!  Samantha has been all over Monday Made Its so watch for some new projects posting soon!

So as teachers, I know you all can understand that even though it is summer vacation, I cannot stop with the school stuff!  This week I ordered my custom Whole Brain Teaching stamps!  I am an official WBT Intern this year so I will be sharing my journey with you!

I also ordered my tiki umbrella!  Switching from a Hawaiian theme to a jungle theme but I have always wanted one of these for my reading area!  I think it still matches the jungle.... right?

Sooo... I am also planning a wedding for next April!  This week I went in to meet with the girls from the banquet hall to do some decoration planning!

I used to work at the banquet hall so thankfully they are helping me out big time!

This is my vision!
Unfortunately, I am not rich.... I'm actually kinda broke.... so we are trying to make this happen on a budget!  Why are linens SO expensive?

Oh yeah... and then we found this....

I HAVE to have this.... at least for my cake table!  Unfortunately now I have an obsession with this beautiful (and expensive) curly willow style!

I was feeling creative this week!  I had a spot on my wall that I have been wanting to cover since I couldn't match the paint.

So I went to my favorite thrift shop!  Picked up this wooden piece for $1.  Painted it black and added some spare parts!  Thank God I do not have to look at that big white spot anymore!

Total cost = $3.50 (not bad!)

Soooo..... I debated on posting this picture but I DID do some Zumba at the Beach this week!  I have been a Zumba Instructor for 3 years.  However, with school taking up so much of my time (along with wedding planning and raising a "tween"), I have not been putting much time or effort into Zumba these days!

We do Zumba at the Beach all summer long and thankfully my daughter made me go this week!  It was a great time!

(That's me in the orange & black)

Finally, I opened my TpT Store this week!!!  I am obsessed with buying clip art and fonts now (someone please remind me that I have a wedding to pay for!) but I LOVE creating my own products and sharing them!

I have several more items I am hoping to get up by next week!

Thank you for sharing this FFF with me!  Please follow us as we are new bloggers!  Comment with your blog link below so we can follow back!

Happy Friday & I hope you all enjoy your weekend!
